It's Official, and I'm Scared of Planes in Case You Haven't Noticed Yet

After much weekend wrangling and lots of phone calls and e-mails we were officially added to another National Geographic tour. And it is a total 180 from Egypt and Jordan. We're going to be on the Galapagos and Peru tour- details found here- and today Bobby confirmed our flights. We're leaving on the 4th and will get back on the 16th. It is usually 16 days, but we're going to be doing 12 days since they made a custom trip to fit us in. I'm sure you're not surprised, but we've already watched a documentary on Machu Picchu and have a few others lined up. I am really excited that we got to replace our original plans with this trip. We still get to experience some incredibly old human historical sites, in addition to cruising the Galapagos which of course has a rich history of its own when it comes to humankind- what's up, Darwin!

Machu Picchu was already on my "I really need to see this before I'm dead" list, but the Galapagos was somehow off my "travel here someday" radar- the more I research however, the more I can't wait to check it out. I'm especially intrigued by how wildly different each island is, and by the many opportunities we'll have to go snorkeling- with sea lions no less!

And in case you were wondering, I'll have plenty of chances to "master my fear" because all together we're going on 8 flights in twelve days. I'm doing the fear of flying course again, folks, and I'm hoping 3rd time is a charm. Here's to spontaneity, a bright future for Egypt's people, and randomly going to Peru and the Galapagos Islands!

  1. Congratulations! What an exciting adventure.
Galp. Isl. are on my list too.
I went to Macchu Pic. in '96. All I can say is: It lives up to the hype. Amazing, other-worldly place.

  2. Thank you! And I'm glad to hear it lives up to the hype- everyone who has ever been has told me it has a very intense, spiritual energy around it. I'm excited to check it out :)

  3. I love the Galapagos! I been there!! no better feeling in the world that arriving at a port and seeing the sea lions just laying on the benches which were designed for people... some were friendly and would even come close to humans... it was amazing! You will never see something like that here in the US, it could be dangerous or someone could sue lol

  4. HS- That's what I'm most excited about, snorkeling with the sea lions! We're watching a 3 part documentary on the Galapagos islands and it is fascinating- how they were made, discovered, etc. I always knew crazy animals lived there, but I had *no idea* just how crazy they really were!
